Yoga Beyond Movement

Time to slow down, reconnect & discover a deeper experience of yoga.

“Yoga is the calming of the fluctuations of the mind, so that one can sit as their truest self.” – The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

Overview

Yoga offers so much more than movement. Rather than adding something new, these practices invite us to uncover what is there beneath the noise of everyday life. Yoga isn’t about fixing ourselves – it’s about remembering ourselves.

Yoga means “union”: the integration of body, mind, breath, emotions, and awareness. Through movement, meditation, breathwork, and self-inquiry, yoga offers practical tools to better understand ourselves and navigate life with greater awareness, resilience, and ease.

This retreat is an invitation to experience yoga beyond movement-not as something to believe, but as something to experience for yourself.

What You’ll Experience with this Extended Program

Set on a 400 acre campus, this 5 day retreat is an opportunity to quiet the outside world, reconnect to nature, and explore the deeper dimensions of yoga through discussions, experiential workshops, and physical practices. We’ll explore how movement, meditation, breathwork, kriyas, and foundational yogic teachings can help us feel more grounded, connected, and less overwhelmed.

Expect movement, reflection, learning, stillness, journaling, time in nature, opportunities for rest, and space to experience yoga beyond the physical practice.

Leave with a deeper understanding of yoga, practical tools to support your nervous system, and a stronger connection to yourself and your practice.

What You’ll Learn

Explore concepts such as the chakras, koshas, Yoga Sutras, breath and energy practices, and the relationship between the mind, body, and nervous system – not just through discussion, but through direct experience and practice. Together, we’ll experience these teachings and explore how they can support self-discovery both on and off the mat.

Explore how yoga can support your nervous system and create more space for clarity, presence, ease, and resilience in everyday life.

Who is this Retreat For?

Perfect for anyone who loves the physical practice of yoga and is curious about what lies beyond it.

Why the Himalayan Institute

This retreat is about more than learning new techniques-it’s about creating the conditions for deeper understanding and self-discovery. The peaceful surroundings, intentional pace, nourishing meals, time in nature, and supportive environment of the Himalayan Institute are all part of the experience. Some of the most meaningful moments happen off the mat—during a quiet walk through the forest, over a shared meal, sitting by the pond, or simply resting in stillness. I chose the Himalayan Institute because its environment naturally supports the spaciousness, reflection, and connection this retreat is designed to cultivate.

  • Nature – 400 acre campus in the beautiful Pocono Mountains, surrounded by approximately 9,500 acres of Pennsylvania State Game Lands.
  • Founded by Himalayan sage, Sri Swami Rama – The Himalayan Institute was founded in 1971. In 1977, The Himalayan Institute international headquarters moved to the Honesdale, PA campus.
  • Zero waste facility – Sends practically zero trash to landfills or incinerators. Food waste goes to the farm down the street, unrecyclable plastics are donated to become composite wood boards, and many more.
  • Sri Vidya Shrine (Meditation Hall) – The Honesdale Sri Vidya Shrine is the twin of the Sri Vidya Shrine in Khajuraho, India, and it is the first Sri Vidya Shrine of the Himalayan Tradition established outside of India.
  • Wellness Services at the PureRejuv Wellness Center – Located on campus, the center offers integrative health and therapeutic treatments designed to support relaxation, healing, and overall well-being. Services are available by appointment and can be added to your retreat experience.
