Yoga FAQs

I don’t think I’m really a yoga person.
Yoga is not about wearing tight clothes and looking perfect in different postures. It’s about how you feel while you’re in those postures. Whether you’re wearing yoga pants or sweat pants or shorts, if stretching, breathing, and moving your body in a certain way feels good, then that is all that matters
What is yoga like?
Yoga involves anything from breathing a certain way, to moving the body through specific postures. Yoga is a way to align the body with the breath to harmonize the nervous system to feel better.
But I’m not flexible.
Not going to a yoga class because you’re not flexible, is like not going to a cooking class because you don’t know how to cook. The point of going to a yoga class is to become more flexible. Some days our bodies are more open, other days we’re more stiff. Every person has a different daily experience and a different life when they come to the mat. Some people are naturally born flexible, while others are born with tighter bodies. Yoga has little to do with flexibility, and more to do with personal acceptance. Being okay with where you’re at, accepting that there is nothing wrong with where you are, and knowing you’re working on improving.
I’ve never done yoga before. What do I need to know?
Make sure you do yoga for you. Make it personal. Don’t worry about what other people look like. Don’t compare yourself to others. Every person has a different daily experience and life experience. Some people spend more time sitting because of their job, while others are more active. You don’t know anyone else’s story, and they don’t know yours. Focus on how you’re feeling while in the class and be there to support yourself and your own personal growth.
There are so many different types of yoga classes. How am I supposed to know which one to do?
Ask yourself this question: Why are you interested in yoga? What are you looking to get out of it? What do you think you need? Reading class descriptions before jumping into a class is key. If it’s Friday and you’re exhausted with no energy and need to relax, try a slower paced class. If you’re looking for something that will make you sweat, try a heated studio. If you want to use yoga as a way to work out, try a strength or power class. If you’re hurt or can’t walk well, try chair yoga. It all comes down to what you want to get out of yoga when you’re ready to practice. There are many different styles of yoga. Some people like a more active and physical practice, while others want a slower, more relaxing experience. Yoga will provide you with a different experience depending on what you are looking to get out of it. If you want yoga to be a workout, then look for a power yoga class or a strength class. If you want it to help calm you down, then try a restorative class or a yin class. Think about what you want to get out of yoga, and determine what kind of class makes the most sense for you. It may be different on different days. Also, keep in mind that every teacher is different. Three different teachers can teach the same exact class and it can be feel completely different, like three different musicians playing the same song on different instruments. Keep exploring different classes until you find a style you like, and an instructor you like.
Can yoga help me feel better emotionally and mentally?
Yes. Yoga involves focusing on your breath which helps to calm down the nervous system. By focusing on your breath and the sound of your breath, your mind is paying attention to the breath and not a million other things that may be going on. Also, depending on the type of yoga you are doing, yoga can also help pull us out of “fight or flight” and allow us to enter “rest & relaxation”.
I lift weights and am very strong. Why do I need yoga?
Our muscles should be like rubber bands. A rubber band that is too tight is not good, and a rubber band that is too lose is not good. Our muscles should be strong AND flexible. Without stretching and moving our muscles, you may be limiting your flexibility and range of motion.
Can yoga help me recover from an injury or medical condition?
Yes. Many people pair different types of recovery methods together depending on the injury or medical condition – chiropractor, acupuncture, physical therapy, etc. Yoga as a recovery method can be as simple as breathing exercises to help alleviate stress and frustration. Be sure to partner with a knowledgeable yoga instructor who knows about your injury and knows how to treat it properly. If a doctor or physical therapist recommends you to start doing yoga to help with an injury or medical condition, make sure you are choosing to practice the appropriate type of yoga for your condition. Speak to the instructor before class and let them know what is going on so they can help you.
How do I know if yoga is for me?
If you want to feel better physically, mentally, emotionally, or strengthen your spiritual connection, then yoga is for you.
Am I too old for yoga?
No. Yoga should be approached as a personal practice, and should be tailored for your needs based on what you are looking to get out of a practice. The simplest form of yoga is called pranayama, which means conscious breathing. Certain yoga classes can be very gentle on the body. Read class descriptions, call ahead to the studio to ask questions, or tell them what you are looking for. This should give you the best guidance.
How intense is yoga?
There are many different types of yoga, and it can be as intense or gentle as you want it to be. The simplest form of yoga is pranayama, or conscious breathing. Some yoga classes are considered “power yoga” classes, and some others use weights. Yoga can be as intense or as simple as you’d like. Do some research and find what class you think would be best for you depending on what you are looking for.
What if I’m not comfortable wearing yoga pants?
You should wear whatever feels comfortable to you. You’re not doing yoga for anyone else. You’re doing it for you. It doesn’t matter what you look like. Go to a yoga class for an experience to help yourself feel better. Wear whatever you want. Be you.
Sound and Healing FAQs

I don’t think I’m really a yoga person.
Yoga is not about wearing tight clothes and looking perfect in different postures. It’s about how you feel while you’re in those postures. Whether you’re wearing yoga pants or sweat pants or shorts, if stretching, breathing, and moving your body in a certain way feels good, then that is all that matters
What is a sound bath?
Sound healing has been around for thousands of years. It is a full body listening experience. It uses sound vibrations to create or maintain deep states of relaxation so your body can heal itself. In our sound baths, all you need to do is lie down and immerse yourself in sounds made by quartz crystal sound bowls.
What is sound healing?
Sound healing uses sound waves and vibrations to create and maintain deep states of relaxation so the body can relax and heal itself.
What do I do in a sound bath?
In our sound baths, all you do is lie down and immerse yourself in sounds made by quartz crystal sound bowls. Experience the sounds and the effects they have on you. Pay attention to your breath, and notice anything that comes to you. This is a passive form of healing and rest for your body and your mind.
How do they work?
When your brainwaves come into contact with the soundwaves from the sound bowls, the waves begin to meet. Since the sound bowls create a more powerful wave, your brainwaves begin to match up with the waves from the bowls by speeding up or slowing down. Your brainwaves oscillate at certain frequencies. When your brain listens to the frequencies from the sound bowls, your brain waves can match up with them. This is called “entrainment” which helps your brain enter a more relaxed, restful state.
What are the white things?
Our sound bowls are made from quartz crystal. Powdered quartz crystal is melted and molded into the bowl shape, similar to hot glass. Tuning of bowls is achieved by varying their heights & thickness. Quartz bowls can resonate or ring for a long time since the particles vibrate for a long time. Quartz bowls can be tuned more accurately than metal hammered bowls. Bowls made of quartz also have more overtones.
What are the effects of the sound bowls?
According to a study done by Carnegie Mellon University in 2023 with 240+ participants, the results showed a 70% decrease in stress and anxiety, and an 80% increase in ability to relax.
What do the sound bowls do?
When we’re awake, our brain is normally in the higher frequencies of beta and alpha waves (higher frequencies). When our brain is in a more relaxed state, like when we’re asleep, first waking up, are falling asleep, in deep relaxation, or are in meditation, our brain produces theta or delta waves (lower frequencies). When listening to the vibration from the sound bowls, our brain may be able to enter into the more restful and relaxed states with lower frequency brain waves. This can feel like a state of semi-consciousness, like when you’re falling asleep, or a loss of time.
How does it help someone relax?
Listening to sound helps quiet and still the mind by creating something for the mind to focus on and anchor to. The mind stays focused on the sound, to help it not focus on everything else. It helps to keep our mind still and drown out any distractions. Listening to the vibration from sound bowls may allow your brain to enter theta or delta waves, which is where the brain is in sleep or deep relaxation. When your brain is in this state, your body physically begins to heal itself as if you were asleep.
Does this align with the chakras?
There is no scientific evidence that this is the case. Different frequencies affect different people in different ways. What is healing for one person, may not be healing for another. Our bodies vibrate at different frequencies. To claim that one specific sound bowl can heal one specific chakra for all bodies may not be true.
What do I need to wear?
You can wear whatever you feel comfortable in that will allow you to relax.
